  • VAFB celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month

    Taco Tuesday, this day has become an icon in American cuisine and society. While not “official” per se, this day can be celebrated every week. By coincidence, this year’s National Hispanic Heritage Month starts on Tuesday. However, Hispanic food is more diverse than tacos alone and cannot be constrained to one day of enjoyment. The same can be said for celebrating all the history, culture, sacrifice and contributions that Americans with a Hispanic heritage have given to this country.
  • VAFB launches into a new era, welcoming USSF inductees

    On Sept. 1, 2020, at the Base Flag Pole in front of the Headquarters’ Building, 21 officers and enlisted members at Vandenberg Air Force Base joined the United States Space Force during the ceremonial induction tradition. The ceremony followed the time-honored military tradition as the officer and enlisted members affirmed their commitment to the armed services by taking either the Oath of Office or the Oath of Enlistment.
  • VAFB Airman wins DoD Fire Officer of the Year 2019

    On July 31, 2020, the Department of Defense announced Senior Master Sgt. Corey Coleman, 30th Civil Engineer Squadron deputy fire chief, the winner of the 2019 Department of Defense Fire Officer of the Year. Additionally, on July 24, 2020, The United States Air force announced that Senior Master Sergeant Coleman and Mr. Lamont Brown, 30th CES firefighter, won the 2019 United States Air Force Fire Officer of the Year and Fire Fighter of the Year awards.

    “I’ve been very fortunate to have done what I’ve done and to have had great people to work with. The relationship between a Base Civil Engineer, which is dual hatted as the CE commander, and the Deputy is a very special one, and it has to be,” said Richard Cote, 30th Civil Engineer Squadron deputy commander. “We have to work very closely together, so there has to be that bond that, in fact, does last a lifetime. I cannot thank [all the commanders I have worked with] enough for the positive impact they’ve had on my life.”

  • The space mission continues during COVID-19; USSF leaders visit VAFB

    Gen. Jay Raymond, U.S. Space Force Chief of Space Operations and U.S. Space Command commander, and Chief Master Sgt. Roger A. Towberman, USSF Senior Enlisted Advisor and USSPACECOM senior enlisted leader, visited different units across Vandenberg Air Force Base, May 6, 2020, to observe how the members of the space community have implemented measures to continue the base’s missions and the Range of the Future initiative while responding to the current COVID-19 pandemic.
  • VAFB delivery supports FCI Lompoc interagency partnership

    The 30th Logistics Readiness Squadron and the 30th Civil Engineering Squadron loaded cots and tents to support the Federal Correctional Institution Lompoc. The supplies were requested by the FCI Lompoc to enable their staff to increase inmate physical separation during COVID-19. The loan of equipment aimed to boost interagency partnerships.
