    The barge docked at Vandenberg AFB to offload the final Delta IV Heavy booster for an upcoming launch scheduled to occur later this year. The barge operation is a vital first step to executing the mission of assured access to space.

    The 30th Logistics Readiness Squadron and the 30th Civil Engineering Squadron loaded cots and tents to support the Federal Correctional Institution Lompoc. The supplies were requested by the FCI Lompoc to enable their staff to increase inmate physical separation during COVID-19. The loan of equipment aimed to boost interagency partnerships.

  • Flying despite COVID-19; BMT Airmen arrive at VAFB

Typically, members leaving BMT from Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas, travel on commercial aircraft to get to their technical school locations. However, under current COVID-19 circumstances, the Airmen are flown on military aircraft to designated bases and transported to their tech school locations by bus. The students went through a 14-day quarantine at BMT prior to flying.

    Across the many units and flights at Vandenberg Air Force Base, the Airmen continue to accomplish the mission to provide assured access to space. While each unit at Vandenberg AFB is important to the mission, there is only one that can provide mission assurance to Atlas and Delta launches: the Mission Assurance Flight within the 2nd Space Launch Squadron.

The Training Device Design and Engineering Center has a long tradition of building training tools and devices at Vandenberg Air Force Base. Established in 1958, TDDEC began their mission during the early years of U.S. Air Force launch vehicle testing. For the past 62 years, expert technicians at TDDEC have been designing and fabricating a variety of scale models, mockups, device prototypes, interactive simulators and one-of-a-kind tools all aimed at improving education and training.
