MINUTEMAN III LAUNCHES FROM VANDENBERG

An unarmed Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile accelerates toward a test range near Guam March 27 after launching from Vandenberg Air Force Base. The ICBM was the second fired for testing and evaluation purposes in the course of a week, with both Malmstrom and F. E. Warren AFBs sending crews and randomly selected missiles to Vandenberg AFB to launch the missiles in conjunction with the 30th Space Wing and 576th Flight Test Squadron which oversee the launch facilities and operational tests, respectively. An unarmed Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile was launched during an operational test at 3:53 a.m. here Friday, March 27.

Col. Shane Clark, 30th Space Wing vice commander, was the Launch Decision Authority.

"We constantly focus on the flawless execution of our launch, landing and range missions. Today an outstanding display of teamwork ensured 100-percent mission completion" said Clark. "It's always a privilege to partner with Air Force Global Strike Command to demonstrate the capabilities of our ICBM fleet and crew force, especially with two test launches in less than a week. I am extremely proud of the superb collaboration between the 30th Space Wing and the 576th Flight Test Squadron, which enabled us to conduct both of these valuable tests."
