MediaAdvisory: Civil Engineer Squadron to host 13th annual Earth Day

Release Number: 050413

Members of the 30th Civil Engineer Squadron Asset Management Flight are scheduled to host their 13th annual Earth Day event outside of the Base Exchange here from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday.

The event will focus on educating Vandenberg men, women and children about the base organizations that continuously demonstrate sustainable and environmentally friendly practices on a daily basis.

The Earth Day event will have informational exhibits, live demonstrations, educational material, and games.

"Earth Day is a great opportunity for the Vandenberg community to learn about a variety of environmental protection and conservation initiatives, and explore new, innovative ways to promote sustainable living and mission accomplishment," said Brad King, Vandenberg Air Force Base energy manager. "It is also a great chance for the surrounding communities to learn more about Vandenberg's commitment to environmental stewardship, as well as help us protect our environment for a sustainable future."

As part of the Earth Day festivities, Pacific Gas & Electric Company is scheduled to present Col. Nina Armagno, 30th Space Wing commander, with a check worth nearly $170,000 for conservation savings over the past year at Vandenberg.

"At Vandenberg, we are continually looking for ways to reduce our energy usage and increase our efficiency," said Armagno. "We have been entrusted with nearly 100,000 acres of land and it is our responsibility to protect all of it."
