German Air Force Lt. Gen. Klaus Habersetzer, Commander, Air Operations Command, German Federal Intelligence Service Maj. Gen. Werner Sczesny, Vice-President for Military Affairs, and German Air Force Brig. Gen. Burkhard Pototzky, Director for Space Operations, visited space operators and facilities at Vandenberg AFB to discuss current multinational operations and future bilateral cooperation Feb. 5-6, 2020. The visit consisted of meetings with senior officials from Combined Force Space Component Command, Space Operations Command, Combined Space Operations Center, 18th Space Control Squadron and Space X. Additionally, the German officials received tours of the CSpOC operations floor and Space Launch Complex 4.
Exercise Global Lightning 20 successfully concluded with the most commercial partnership participation to date at the Combined Space Operations Center at Vandenberg Air Force Base Jan. 30. This year civilian personnel from seven commercial companies affiliated with the Commercial Integration Cell supported the exercise by rapidly identifying, diagnosing and resolving on-orbit requirements, while also increasing the overall resilience of Combined Force Space Component Command operations at the CSpOC.

2nd Lt Evangeline Borngesser and SSgt Joshua Hunt, 2nd Space Launch Squadron, describe the renovation activities at Space launch Complex 8, Vandenberg Air Force Base, California. Designed to improve an underutilized resource with up-to-date launch pad surfaces, electrical, and communications equipment, the new SLC-8 will provide commercial and government space lift providers a new and easily transformable site for test and development.
Veterans who have been granted a Veterans Affairs disability rating from 1 to 99 percent, as well as their caregivers, are now authorized to obtain an installation access card. Base access, for both the VHIC holder and their caregiver, is contingent on a favorable background check, which is performed upon arrival at the Visitor Control Center. As the need for space superiority continues into a new decade, training and education will lay the foundation for building up future leaders in the U.S. Space Force. Within the 30th Operations Support Squadron is a shop whose core mission is to create high quality training tools and devices for the space and missile community.
The President signed the 2020 National Defense Authorization Act and with it, directed the establishment of the U.S. Space Force as the sixth branch of the armed forces.
