Questions > FAQ Topic

1. What is a Command Post?

The Vandenberg Command Post is the wing commander's 24/7 operations center; his eyes and ears. On a day to day basis, the Vandenberg Command Post is comprised of the Emergency Actions Cell containing two controllers, backed-up by a support staff of one officer-in-charge and five enlisted personnel. During higher states of readiness and in times of emergencies the command post is combined with the 30th Space Wing Battle Staff and its Support Battle Staff, fully activating Vandenberg's crisis response and management capability. The Vandenberg Command Post is manned 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to fully support the needs of 14th Air Force, the 30th Space Wing and Vandenberg Air Force Base.

2. What does a Command Post do?

During normal operations, the Emergency Actions Cell monitors law enforcement and emergency response activity, responds to emergency action messages and readiness condition changes from higher headquarters, processes quick reaction checklists for local emergencies and command and control requirements, conducts operational reporting and keeps the 14th Air Force and 30th Space Wing leadership informed with vital information.
