1. What is AFOSI?

Detect and Provide Early Warning of Worldwide Threats to the Air Force
Identify and Resolve Crime that Threatens Air Force Readiness or Good Order and Discipline
Combat Threats to our Information Systems and Technologies
Detect and Deter Fraud in the Acquisition of USAF Prioritized Weapons Systems 

Counterintelligence
The CI mission is to counter the threat to Air Force security posed by hostile intelligence services and terrorist groups and to identify and assess the threat for Air Force commanders. This includes investigating the crimes of espionage, terrorism, technology transfer and other specialized CI operations. 

Criminal Investigations

The vast majority of AFOSI's investigative activities involve general felony crimes. These crimes include robbery, rape, assault, major burglaries, drug trafficking and others.

Economic Crime Investigations 

A significant amount of resources are assigned to economic crime or fraud investigations. These include violations of public trust involving Air Force contracting matters, appropriated and non-appropriated funds activities, computer systems, environmental matters and other irregularities. AFOSI determines the existence and location of fraud in Air Force Operations and assists command level managers identify and prevent fraud involving Air Force and DoD resources.

2. Where do Special Agents train?

All those trying to become Special Agents are trained at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC), GA.

3. How long do Agents remain in training?

Agents are in training at FLETC for 16 weeks.

4. What do Agents do in training?

The 16 weeks of training are divided into lectures and operations. Agents in training gain knowledge and expertise in the legal arena, evidence collection, forensics, weapons training, interviewing and report writing just to name a few. Operationally, agents receive training in defensive tactics, protective service measures, firearms training, and dynamic entry. 5. What qualifications are required to train?

Enlisted Members

-- Must be at least an E-4
-- Can be an E-7 with no more than 14 years Active Duty
-- Must be willingly released from current career field 

Officers

-- Can cross train within six years of Active Duty commission
-- Must also be willingly released from current career field
-- Can apply straight out of the AFA or ROTC
