SANTA MARIA, Calif. – Over 250 local veterans gather with event volunteers at the Santa Maria Fairground for the Santa Barbara County Veterans Stand Down here Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012. The Veterans Stand Down was organized to provide a single place for homeless and nearly-homeless veterans to receive a wide variety of personal assistance. The free services for veterans included hot showers, haircuts, new clothing, medical and dental check-ups, financial assistance, legal services, family support, Department of Veterans Affairs information and much more.
