8/17/2011 - VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Twelve families, belonging to Vandenberg's Exceptional Family Member Program, are scheduled to participate in an open house event in Santa Ynez Valley from 3 - 5 p.m. Aug. 19.
The Santa Ynez Valley Therapeutic Horseback Riding Program, a program designed to provide therapeutic horseback riding to enhance and improve the quality of life of individuals with special needs, will provide Vandenberg' EFMP members the opportunity to saddle-up and ride horses under the supervision of experienced equestrians at a ranch located off of Refugio Road, Santa Ynez.
"I am excited to see these families experience something different and fun that's going to be beneficial for their child," said Raymond Vasquez, Vandenberg's EFMP coordinator. "I hope to see more families take advantage of the opportunities that are out there - like this one."
In March 2010, Vandenberg assembled a special needs task force called the EFMP-Multidisciplinary Team. The team is comprised of personnel from the Airman and Family Readiness Center, Youth Center, Child Development Center, Vandenberg schools, 30th Medical Group, TRICARE and the 30th Space Wing Staff Judge Advocate Office. The purpose of the team is to increase collaboration among a diverse group of professionals and family members to ultimately rectify problems experienced by Vandenberg's families with special needs. One of the goals of the EFMP-Multidisciplinary Team is to organize and seek out events, such as the Santa Ynez Valley Therapeutic Horseback Riding Program open house, to get EFMP families involved in community activities.
