JFCC Space, 14th Air Force celebrates fifth anniversary

1/21/2011 - VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif.  -- The Joint Functional Component Command for Space (JFCC Space) and 14th Air Force change of command ceremony is scheduled here for 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 21, 2011.

The presiding officers for the ceremony will be Gen. Kevin Chilton, commander of U.S. Strategic Command, and Gen. William Shelton, commander of Air Force Space Command.

During the indoor ceremony, Lt. Gen. Larry James, commander, JFCC Space and 14th Air Force, will relinquish command to Lt. Gen. Susan Helms. Prior to the change of command ceremony, in a separate ceremony, General Helms will be promoted from major general to lieutenant general.

General James arrived here in December 2008 and will be leaving to serve as the deputy chief of staff, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, in Washington, D.C.

During her most recent position, General Helms served as the director of plans and policy, U.S. Strategic Command, at Offutt Air Force Base, Neb.
