8/22/2012 - VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif.  -- Team V members competed in the Wing Sports Day here Aug. 17.

Sports day is organized by the 30th Force Support Squadron Fitness Center staff and offers squadrons and organizational teams a chance to compete in a variety of sporting events throughout the day.

"Participants were able to break away from their daily duties, get out of the office and have some fun," said Pamela Coffey, 30th Force Support Squadron Fitness and Sports Center director. "Events like this boost morale and promote teamwork through a bit of friendly competition."

More than 1,450 base members participated in this event.

Members from 30th Civil Engineer Squadron finished the competition with the first place championship.

"We work hard and we play hard and that personality comes out on the sports field," said Chief Master Sgt. Roy Lapioli, 30th CES superintendent. "It is a good feeling that we are able to communicate to the base that we work together as a team and in this case we had the opportunity to win as a team."

Golf:
1st place: 576th Flight Test Squadron
2nd place: 533rd Training Squadron

Bowling:
1st place: 576th Flight Test Squadron
2nd place: 21st Space Operations Squadron

5k run:
1st male runner: 1st Air and Space Test Squadron (1st Lt. Kyle Mathison)
1st female runner: 30th Civil Engineer Squadron (2nd Lt. Morgan Grohol)

Softball:
Tied between 1st Air and Space Test Squadron and 30th Space Wing

Dodgeball:
1st place: 30th Civil Engineer Squadron (Team 2)
2nd place: 30th Civil Engineer Squadron (Structures)

Cornhole:
1st place: 576th Flight Test Squadron (Staff Sgt. Josh Cain and Staff Sgt. Matt Tinkle)
2nd place: 576th Flight Test Squadron (Master Sgt. Wayne Horton and 1st Lt. Todd Yehle)

Volleyball:
1st place: 30th Security Forces Squadron
2nd place: 30th Civil Engineer Squadron (Structures 1)

Tug-O-War:
1st place: 30th Security Forces Squadron
2nd place: 30th Security Forces Squadron

Soccer:
1st place: 30th Comptroller Squadron
2nd place: 30th Medical Support Squadron

Ping Pong:
1st place: 30th Medical Group (Maj. Jeff McLean)
2nd place: 30th Space Wing (Senior Airman Derrick Davis)

Home Run Derby:
1st place: 30th Civil Engineer Squadron (Senior Airman Christopher Williams)
2nd place: 4th Space Launch Squadron (Capt. Rick Paz)

Basketball:
1st place: 30th Logistics Readiness Squadron
2nd place: 30th Civil Engineer Squadron (WFSM 1)

Cardboard Regatta:
