10/28/2010 - VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif.  -- No structures are currently threatened in the Bear Creek wild fire here that has now burned more than 400 acres today according to emergency operations personnel.

Due to quick action by crews, defensive measures were put in place to protect the approximately six buildings that were threatened earlier by the fire which started on South Base at approximately 1 p.m. today.

Multiple power poles that supply main power to south base have burned. Impact of the loss of the power poles has not been assessed. There are no reported injuries or other damage at this time.

Firefighters are working to control where the fire burns, as the area involved is known to contain unexploded ordnance.

Approximately 150 firefighters and emergency responders are working to contain the blaze, which is slowing down in growth due to dying winds. Emergency personnel are fighting the fire with 28 fire engines, seven fire dozers, three helicopters and two fixed-wing aerial tankers.

More information will be released as it becomes available.
