10/28/2010 - VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Vandenberg emergency response teams were exercising capabilities during a base wide inspection today when a wild land fire broke out at 1:00 p.m on south base near Space Launch Complex 3, according to 30th Space Wing officials.

Portions of south base were evacuated and access was limited to emergency essential personnel according to officials.

The Bear Creek wildfire has burned through approximately 150 acres. The fire continues to grow with the help of the wind blowing through the area at 12 to 25 knots.

Vandenberg fire officials have requested support from Lompoc City, Santa Barbara and Ventura counties, Los Padres National Forest, California Highway Patrol and the Santa Barbara Sheriffs' Office. Three helicopters are reported to be en-route and aerial tankers have been requested.

More information will be released as it becomes available.
