VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- The Air Force Office of Special Investigations at Vandenberg has started a new hot line to allow people anonymous reporting of illegal activities on base.

Calling 734-3466 gives people a chance to report illegal activity without having to speak to an OSI agent. An answering machine, checked by OSI agents regularly, will also give callers a number to reach an on-call OSI agent, said Special Agent Charles Kelly, Air Force OSI Detachment 804.

"OSI can only open up investigations on activities that are reported," said Special Agent Michael Parker, AFOSI Detachment 804. "It'll give people the opportunity to do the right thing and report illegal activity without getting involved in an investigation."

"When people realize that they can use the hot line and remain completely anonymous, I think it will become an important part of OSI investigations," Agent Kelly said.

The hot line is expected to help the base maintain good order and discipline, help OSI remain an effective deterrent to illegal activities on Vandenberg, and to keep Vandenberg free of crime, Agent Kelly said.

The hot line is not the only way to report illegal activities. Anyone can use their chain of command, go directly to OSI, whether in person or by phone, or go through security forces, said Agent Parker.
