Colonel Barbara A. Jones was the commander of the 43d Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron at Pope Field, North Carolina where she led 164 personnel in the AF's first and only active association aeromedical evacuation (AE) squadron with an AF Reserve wing. At a moment's notice, her unit mobilized and deployed specially trained and fully equipped, fit and ready medical and communications forces capable of establishing and operating critical components of the DoD's Theater AE System in response to and support of any homeland or overseas contingency or steady-state operation.

Colonel Jones was born and raised in the north side of Chicago, Illinois. She earned a direct commission after graduating from Aurora University School of Nursing, Aurora, IL, in 1988. Prior to the assignment above, she was the commander of the 18th Medical Operations Squadron and Chief Nurse of the 18th Medical Group, Kadena AB, Japan. Colonel Jones has held various leadership positions throughout her 23 year career.

Colonel Jones has been married to Jamie Jones of Albuquerque, New Mexico, since December 1992. They have two children, Benjamin (14) and Amelia (11).
